Microchips to Reunite Pets & Their Owners

According to the American Humane Association, millions of cats and dogs are found and brought to animal shelters across the country each year.

While collar identification is a good idea, collars can be easily lost or damaged. Microchipping is a method of providing permanent identification for your four-legged friend that is safe and reliable.

At Beloit Veterinary Hospital, we offer microchipping to help increase your chance of reuniting with your pet should they ever become lost.

Safe & Effective Microchips

How Does Microchipping Work?

A microchip is similar in size and shape to a grain of rice. It is injected beneath the surface of your pet's skin between the shoulder blades.

The procedure takes only a few minutes and can be completed during any visit to Beloit Veterinary Hospital. We often place microchips as part of your pet's routine preventive care plan, typically during spay or neuter surgeries.

Each chip has a unique number that is registered to a pet. We will register your pet’s microchip in the national pet recovery database, and you will be required to finish the registration by adding your contact information and address. Don't forget to keep your information up to date.

Benefits of Microchipping

There are a number of reasons why microchipping is a great alternative to standard collars and identification tags:

  • They can help reunite you with your pet
  • Microchips are designed to last a lifetime
  • The procedure is quick and painless
  • A microchip can't be lost or misplaced
  • It is an inexpensive way to protect your pet
