Surgical Services for Pets

At Beloit Veterinary Hospital, we offer a range of surgeries to help your dog or cat maintain and restore good health.

While spay and neuter procedures are among the most commonly performed, our vet is proficient in other surgical services, such as soft tissue, ocular and dental procedures.

We take great pride in offering these services in a sterile environment with advanced tools and technology. Your pet will have an examination and bloodwork before undergoing any surgical procedure, ensuring their safety while under anesthesia.

Once your furry friend is out of surgery, we will shift our focus to ongoing pain management and recovery.

Surgery, Beloit Vet

Our Commitment to Optimal Surgical Outcomes

We will always keep you informed about why we recommend a given surgical procedure and about any post-operative care that your pet will need once they are able to return home.

This includes proper care of the affected area, what to watch for and when to bring your furry friend in for follow-up visits.

Surgical Procedures

At Beloit Veterinary Hospital, we offer surgical procedures for a variety of purposes, from preventive care to emergency medical care.

Our Beloit veterinary team routinely performs the following elective and non-elective surgeries for cats and dogs. If your pet requires advanced care, our vet will refer you to a local veterinary surgeon to ensure your pet receives the best possible care.

  • Soft Tissue Surgery

We offer soft tissue surgical procedures for pets suffering from ear and nose disorders.

These procedures include everything unrelated to bones, joints, muscles, or the neurologic system.

  • Spaying & Neutering

When we spay or neuter a cat or dog, we surgically sterilize them to prevent disease and provide them with an extended life expectancy.

  • C-Sections

During Cesarean sections (C-sections), we surgically remove puppies or kittens from their mother's uterus.

C-sections are typically performed when the mother is unable to give birth naturally, whether pre-planned to avoid complications or if they experience birthing difficulties.

  • Ocular Surgery

Ocular surgery is performed on pets to treat conditions affecting the eye and eye area.

Some of our veterinarian's most common eye surgeries include eyelid tumor removal, ectropion surgery, entropion surgery, exoneration of the orbit and cherry eye surgery.

  • Mass Removal

Cats and dogs can develop masses or tumors associated with the skin. Masses can also grow inside a body cavity and can be serious or life-threatening.

Mass removal surgery is a fairly common procedure for both cats and dogs. You can expect to bring your pet home the same day.

  • Foreign Body

Sometimes, foreign objects are ingested or can get stuck inside a cat's or dog's body.

Whether your pet has eaten an object it shouldn't have or been injured in an accident, we can perform foreign body surgery to remove it.

Specialized skills or equipment are sometimes needed to perform pet surgery. If that is the case for your animal, your vet will refer you to a cat or dog surgeon. They will work closely with the veterinary surgeon to ensure your dog or cat receives the best care.

  • Wounds

Wounds occur when living tissue (skin and the tissues beneath it) has been cut, broken, burnt, torn, or otherwise damaged.

These wounds must be cleaned, disinfected, and appropriately cared for by a qualified veterinarian as soon as possible. If left untreated, your pet will have an increased risk of developing infections.

  • Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopedic surgeries correct injuries and diseases of your pet's bones, ligaments, joints, tendons, and other skeletal structures.

Much like the ACL in humans, dogs and cats have a CCL, or cranial cruciate ligament. A cruciate injury is one of the most common orthopedic complications seen, an injury that is painful, problematic, and requires surgical repair.

If your dog or cat is suffering from a condition or injury that requires advanced specialized care your vet will refer your dog or cat to a vet surgeon.

  • Dental Surgery

Our veterinarian provides dental surgeries for dogs and cats. These surgeries range from tooth extractions to gum disease treatment and jaw fracture repairs.

What to Expect With Veterinary Surgery

We understand that the thought of bringing your pet in for surgery can be daunting. Please know that we only suggest surgical procedures when they are in your pet's best interest.

During surgery, your pet will be placed under anesthesia. Our team will continuously monitor them and ensure appropriate pain management throughout the surgery procedure.

Once surgery is complete, your veterinarian will provide thorough instructions for at-home care and schedule the necessary follow-up visits.

Surgical protocols at our clinic include:

Pre-surgical assessments: We will confirm the specifics of the procedure, complete a physical examination of the patient, and ensure blood tests have been completed and reviewed by the vet.

Dedicated surgical suites: Surgeries are performed in a dedicated surgical suite, which is kept completely sterile to prevent infection and cross-contamination.

Surgical attire: Our staff always wears disposable caps and masks, sterile gowns, and single-use gloves while in the surgical suite.

Sterile packs and equipment: We carefully clean, sterilize and wrap our surgical instruments and equipment before every surgery.
